Do What You Want To Do – The Best Life Lesson

It is hard to do what you want to do in life when you live in the box. Many of us do what we have to do to pay the price to the life. When I say many, I mean almost everyone!

Our lives are fixed. We have a so-called secure system blueprint, which we have to follow if we want to be successful. You know the one: go to school, get a diploma, get a job, get married straight away, get a mortgage (creepy word), and work your life away for a boss.

Well, I don’t believe in it, because I see too many people around me failing to be happy and prosperous by following that system. To me, it was a clear sign that “something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”

How To Do What You Want To Do

To live fulfilled life in a full sense of the word, you, me, or anyone else, we should do what we want to do in life. No matter what it is, if it makes you happy there is no single doubt about should you go for it or not.

I wrote this post with the sincere hope that you will embrace and apply what you will learn here today. I study and use the knowledge as soon as I get it, and my life continues to change for the better. We all hold the same powers within us, and we can use them whenever we want.

You don’t have to be shaped by your outside world, by the box system. You can learn how to take control from the inside.

Be What You Want To Be, Do What You Want to Do

The only way how you can achieve the statement from the above is to stop, and start to think outside of the box, outside of the system. Whatever it is you want to do probably doesn’t fit into the box. Therefore, leave what you learned so far behind and open your mind to new ways which are here for centuries.

Quite ironic, ha?

They don’t teach this knowledge in school. For this knowledge, you will have to dig in deeper into some old books.

I was looking for the key to success in life, the key that will help me to do what I want to do in life. And I found it. The key is not something that I invented. It is something that is here since the dawn of humankind. Every man from the past who discovered it thought he was the first one to do so. If you think about it for some time, you will find out about what I am talking.

This key, if you understand it can alter your life. I will give you the key plus five practical steps to use that key so you can do what you want to do.

Here is the key…

We Become What We Think About

Now think about it. Why are so many people living the same life? Why almost every man does what the man before him did, and why is every woman doing nearly the same?

We grow up looking up to our parents and people close to us. Our parents are living the precisely the same life as our grandparents. The only difference is in time age, more or less everything else is the same. This is the box I was mentioning before. Everything we learn at an early age we learn from parents. Later on in school from teachers. By the time we get a job, we are already molded into a pattern of thinking which is passed on us. Then, our boss is teaching us how to think like him, and so on. We become a product of our environment.

If you are not born in a system which tells you exactly what to do, you will never do what you want to do.

Be What You Want To Be

Now, here comes the big truth! Everyone is where he is, no matter he will admit it or not because that is exactly where he wanted to be.

We become what we think about!

The second truth is that we do not always exercise this ability. In most cases, we don’t. That is why most of us live the life of our parents and teachers.

We have the power to control our thoughts, to direct them in any direction we want.

If you think you can be successful, you will most certainly become successful. If you think you can be loved, you will be loved. If you think you can be rich, you can be rich. And, the same rule applies to negative thinkers. If you think you can’t succeed in life, you are guaranteed to stay where you are.

All you have to do is to control your thinking.

It is the most significant power we hold. However, it is a useful power only if we are aware of it. If not, and most people are not, it becomes a destructive nature.

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind. -Budha

A mans life is what his thoughts make of it. -Marcus Aurelius

A man is what he thinks about all day long. –Ralph. W. Emerson

Whatever the mind can conceive, the mind can achieve. -Napoleon Hill

Now, when you understand that you are in control, that you and only you can shape your life, I want to share five practical steps to exercise this power.

Do What You Want To Do in 5 Steps

If you want poverty in your mental, spiritual, and your physical world, you will get it. All you have to do is concentrate your mind on poverty and wait. It just takes time to happen. On the other hand, if you wish for good, positive things to happen to you, keep thinking of them and wait to see what will materialize.

Concentrate your mind on positive in five steps!

Set a Goal

The thought is just an impulse as long as it is in man’s mind. The first way to make it happen in reality is to write it down on a piece of paper, possibly a card and set it as a goal. The moment you write it down on a document, it is yours. It is not a thought anymore; it now has a solid physical form.

Hold that card with you all the time. Look at it as often as you can. Remind yourself whenever you can on what you wrote on that card.

Then begin to,

Visualize Your Goal

We are gifted with an intellectual tool of imagination. We can close our eyes and see in our mind whatever we want to look at. The fact is that when we think, we think in images as well as in words in our minds.

So, if you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand. This is a fact!

Twice a day take a look at your written statement of your goal, then close your eyes and visualize it. Completely relax and see yourself in possession of your goal, doing what you want to do. Create beautiful images in your mind. Do this as more often as you can. Remeber, dreams are free, and they cost you nothing.

Take a test to do this for thirty days, and you will be amazed by the change in your thoughts. Thirty days seems like a short period. However, to be able to concentrate your thoughts on one thing for a more extended period is a challenge for every human. Benefits of this test are priceless!

However, to make it happen you MUST mix a key ingredient.

Include Emotions

Faith, belief, self-confidence or fear, doubt, worry.

What do you think which of these emotions will bring you more success in life?

Our imagination cannot work if we feel negative. It is impossible to think positive and to feel negative. It must be one or another. Therefore, while visualizing your goal, the thing you want to do, you must mix a positive feeling with your vision.

It is much important to stay relaxed and cheerful during the process.

Start by practicing affirmations every time you imagine your goal. Say to your self that you can do it, that you are able. Also, include the practice of gratefulness in your life. Be happy and say thank you for all the things you have already. To keep a relaxed state begin with a daily meditation routine.

In developing positive emotions, you probably won’t succeed from the first time you try. Don’t get frustrated because for the development of something, if it does not exist already, takes time. As long as you stay relaxed, the feeling of belief will come to you. And you will recognize the moment!

There is one great way how to speed up the process and eliminate negative emotions from your life.  Make sure that every morning you begin your day with positive routines.

Take Action

If you think of food for long enough, you will feel hungry. If you stay hungry for some time, you will eventually take action to eat something to thirst your hunger.

The same way the architect first design his building in his mind and then when he feels right about it; he takes action to build it, that is how you will have to do as well. At some point, you will make the second physical step and go for it.

However, once you do take action, don’t stop to think about it. Remeber that you are taking action based on your vision, and how you visualized it, it will happen. Have faith, and it will repeat itself the same way you envisioned it, if not even better.

Sometimes you will encounter failure, which is a healthy thing. Failure is a part of life. Every architect fails. However, what differentiates an everyday architect from a great one is wrapped around one great personal quality.

Be Persistent

Persistence is an antidote for failure! Persistence is the key to success!

As long as you persistently hold your image in your mind, you are moving to its realization. There will be some obstacles in your way. However, you can use your imagination to remove those obstacles and visualize your goal even stronger than before. Then you must, with even more persistence, make a move forward.

Many people succeed in the process of making a goal and visualizing it. The problem with most people is that they will give up at the first sign of trouble. The trouble is a moment of the lesson, a moment of growth. If you take it like that and persistently move forward, you will develop many more personal qualities along the way. You will enrich your personality with the ability to make a firm decision and stick to it; you will create a feeling of faith or confidence in yourself, self-reliance, organization skills, endurance, your physical and mental strength will increase significantly, and much more!

Moreover, you will be in a position to do what you want to do! Persistence pays off!

As You Sow So Shall You Reap

I don’t want to be biblical, but there are great truths in those old books which are full of the answer to life and how you can live it and be whoever you want to be and to do whatever you want to do.

I want to give you an analogy in which the human mind is paralleled with a fertile garden.

Picture your mind as fertile ground. In that soil, you can plant anything you want. The mind doesn’t care what you plant in it, but like every fertile land, it will return what you sow.

You can plant successful and beautiful ideas, or you can neglect to take control al let weeds and poison grow instead.

As You Saw So Shall You REap

Chose now to plant in your mind an abundant garden of definite ideas.

Your goals are seeds, and your vision is a three that you want from that seed. Your feelings are the sun it needs to grow; your actions are the water. As long as you persistently take care of it, nurture it, and work on it; it will grow and bear fruits.

Whatever thought you plant in your mind, you will see it in your reality. Thoughts of fear and failure, or ideas of happiness and success. It is up to you to make a choice.

No one knows how long it takes for some things to happen. We know that for some physical seeds it takes a certain amount of time to grow. For example, human seed takes 9 months. However, the ideas are non-physical and they depend on strength of your goals, vision, emotion, and action.

Ask, and the Life Will Give It To You

Only those who are brave enough to ask questions such as how, why, where, and when, will eventually receive their answers. And, those who stay skeptic and remain in the box, they will stay there forever.

You must make a choice, to take the chance if you want anything in life to change. All you have to know is how to make that change happen. The rest will follow.

I gave my best knowledge and experience to show you how to do what you want to do in life. It is something that I discovered, and I practice for some time in my life. Since I chose to take a chance and make this change, I reshaped my life. My mind is not in the box anymore, my thought soars freely, and my actions are persistent and successful.

We become what we think about…

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below, and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Ivan

  1. What a great article! I really enjoyed your tips you have listed there. People don’t realize the importance of being in the right mindset and being successful. These two things go hand in hand when it comes to a lot of things. Whether it be fitness, or job goals or any other goals you might have being in the correct mindset from the beginning is key. Great read thank you!

    • Hi Tony,

That is correct. Mindset is a first step towards the success in any calling in life. Whatever a person wants to do he or she must fix their mind first and take action second. Thank you for your comment.

  2. Hi Ivan,

After reading the book LOA I believe a few odd things started to occur. I wanted more money in my life, and bit by bit, it would materialize out of nowhere. Some one would hand me back that few quid I gave them ages ago just when I needed it the most, or I’d win on a scratch card. Stuff like that. You do become what you think on the most. The key to success, as well, is definitely setting a plan!

Reasons why many people just scupper on through in life is that they have the wrong plan! No one who is wealthy lived by others plans and they learned to build their own ladder to success. Learn to live on just 30% of your earnings, give 10% to charity (that is vital as there appears to be some coding in the universe that returns your kindness) and invest 20%! The rest is not party money – it is your wipe out fund – funds that take care of your up keep in life and for rainy days. I call it the “Peace of Mind Fund”.

This is great article and I know its going to help many focus in on what it is they really want out of life instead of being ‘stuck’ in some horrible job.

Thanks Ivan for this illuminating article and I will be looking forward to more of your insights to help people to do what I wan to do the best in my life.

  3. Incredibly positive post Ivan, the problem for a lot of people I guess are the negative aspects, fear, doubt and worry, using excuses to put things off. As I get older I think it’s easier to “free my mind”, but the negative aspects are still haunting.

  4. These are great tips. I think sometimes I fail to clearly define what I want and then get frustrated by not being where I think I should be. I also fail to visualize enough. So, after reading your post, I think I’ll go do those two things!

  5. Another great article again Ivan. The principles of doing what you want to do are so in line with exactly what I am currently doing. I am now just in the phase of taking action and being persistent until I reach my goals.
Reading personal development books like those of Tony Robbins keeps my mindset at a focused and top level for heading forward.
This is because following the system is not what I was born for.
    Thanx man

  6. I totally agree with you Ivan. The purpose of life is to be happy; and to be happy, we should do the things we love to do or things that we are passionate about.
I consider it as a traditional belief or norm that we should go to school, finish a degree, then find a work. Well, it is really essential to go to school in order to learn. However, it is a fact that we were told to go to school in order to have a job that we don’t like deep inside.
So, to enjoy life, we should live by our passion.

    • Hi Win,

I agree with you about the school. I know I am hard but I think that school today is just a training for 9-5. Kids really don’t learn anything in school. Of course, there is always that 5 % which have a better direction in life but sadly, the most of children are just trained to be a number in some company out there.

      Thank you for visit.

  7. These are some great motivational words! I know I’ve had my ups and downs through life. I’m definitely doing my best to keep positive thoughts versus negative ones. I really should do more to mentally affirm my goals. I visualize my goals, but rarely write them down which is what I need to get better at doing. Thanks for sharing these tips!
